Get Your Day Flowing A Page from My Journal

As the deer pants for water, so does my soul thirst for you. Psalm 42:1

To be honest, all I wanted to do was cry and feel sorry for myself. After all these years how could they leave me? What would you do if the majority of your family, including your ninety-five year old mama moved back to Virginia, 800 miles away? See what I mean?

But as I looked around at all of the I will miss you flowers, that were gifted to them by friends, I realized that I needed to refresh the water and renew my mind. With a desperate prayer and a bucket full of flowers, I drove straight to the nursing home in hopes of enlivening someone's day while the flowers were still bright and colorful. On the way, I bought vases from Dollar Tree, filled them with water and wrote scripture cards to accompany the blooms.

When I walked through the doors, each resident perked up with bright smiles and thank you’s. But one lady, who was not on the distribution list, rolled out of her room and handed me invitation. Once inside her room, I felt like I had entered an art studio. First, her bed was covered with paint, paint brushes and painted flowers. But the creativity didn't stop there.

Next, she opened her cabinet and brought out a notebook that was filled with original poetry. The first rhyme she read was about Jesus. A poem about a violin came next. It talked about the dangers of wasting time and allowing other people to play your strings. We had a rich exchange about our lives. She was not going to allow Parkinson's disease to steal her joy or block the flow of her creativity and fruitfulness. To crown all that, her name was Virginia, just like my Mama's home state. After prayer, I walked into the last room on the list. Her name was Margaret, the same name as my mom. With thirst quenched, I knew that I was in the flow of my day. I couldn't wait to share my encounter!

GOD’S STORY A Page from God's Journal

When the lonely, outcasted Samaritan woman struggled up the mountain to fill her water pot, it was during the hottest part of the day. Not only was she thirsty - physically, but her soul longed for unconditional love. Jesus was already there and offered her living water that could eliminate her thirst, at any time and in any location.

Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:13-14

She was startled and doubtful of His claim at first. But then He spoke directly to her spirit and told her everything about herself, including her past five husbands. At that moment, her ears perked and she knew, He was not just any man, He was the Messiah. He was her Savior. She dropped her water pot, ran down the mountain and shouted to her prior accusers, "come meet a Man who told me everything about myself." Sure enough, His living water and His words, transformed her entire lifestyle.
